The DEI events you want to be at Cannes

In partnership with the Embassy of Dutch Creativity, we're running a series of workshops across the week - come learn, meet new people and discuss why DE&I is a driver for creative excellence, has powerful social impact and, well, it wins big at Cannes LION.

MONDAY: How to build an inclusive audience strategy: five trends to know now

When: Monday 19 June, 11.45am-12.45pm
Where: Embassy of Dutch Creativity, 24 Bd de la Croisette, Cannes, France

Explore this: DE&I is a strategy for growth. The big question is: how can you future-proof your brand for 2030? What are the opportunities we simply don’t see? And why don’t we see them?  We look at five ways the demographics of the world are shape-shifting with examples and understand how your brand can harness these movements. Walk away understanding with a new perspective on audience strategy.

MONDAY LUNCH: The BIG AI x DE&I debate

When: Monday 19 June, 1.00pm-2.00pm
Where: Embassy of Dutch Creativity, 24 Bd de la Croisette, Cannes, France
Cost: €95 (inc VAT) per person, for 3 courses, including drinks. Max 25 spots.

As AI floods into the marketing industry without guardrails, we look at the implications from a DE&I point of view. What are the ethics we need in place right now? Most importantly, we have to ask: who benefits from AI? In any system of oppression, there are those who ‘win’ and those who are further marginalised. Join us in a fearless debate over lunch where we’ll explore: AI procurement, AI bias, AI’s role in systems of oppression and more.

TUESDAY: Backlash - why the fear of getting it wrong stops us getting it right

When: Tuesday 20 June, 11.00am-12.00pm
Where: Embassy of Dutch Creativity, 24 Bd de la Croisette, Cannes, France

We look at what happens when brands get it ‘wrong’ and why this happens. We’ll dig into examples (Samsung, L’Oreal, Sainsbury’s and others) and case studies to understand what the ‘backlash’ was, how the brand responded and what they could have done differently in a workshop scenario. This one is for everyone in corporate communications to understand how to respond in a crisis.

WEDNESDAY: Inclusive Leadership, Inclusive Brands

When: Wednesday 21 June, 11.00am-12.00pm
Where: Embassy of Dutch Creativity, 24 Bd de la Croisette, Cannes, France

As above.

THURSDAY: Age and ageism in marketing: the untapped audience

When: Thursday 22 June, 11.30am-12.15pm
Where: Embassy of Dutch Creativity, 24 Bd de la Croisette, Cannes, France

We explore the context of age/ageism through a series of ads, looking at the typical stereotypes and how to avoid them. While ageism focuses on the over 50s, it also applies to all ages, we can see how this plays out in our marketing work. We’ll deconstruct a series of ads to look progressive portrayal and why you need an over 50s marketing strategy from the inside out.

Our incredible hosts are the Embassy of Dutch Creativity, the trade mission of the joint Dutch creative industry during the international advertising festival in Cannes. Since 2015, the Embassy of Dutch Creativity has been supported by various Dutch trade associations, individual agencies and other creative service providers. We are grateful to be their DE&I partners for the second year in a row.

OFFICIAL: we're speaking at Cannes Lion

DE&I shapes creative excellence. Across all Cannes Lions 2022 Award Winners, creative work with a DE&I heartland proved inclusion powers creativity. For this to have a meaningful impact it must go beyond representation and into brand strategy.

In this Cannes Lions workshop, interrogate DE&I with last year's LIONS Awarded work, and learn the ‘creative critical thinking’ needed to build an inclusive, progressive brand. Find out what movements are on the horizon that will shape the landscape for inclusive practices.

Workshop: Unlocking Creative Excellence with Powerful DE&I Strategies

The Lab, Palais II, Cannes, France

In 2023, we shouldn't have to write this...

We are 100% signed up and behind this statement from Outvertising, the industry's LGBTQ+ community.

As they say:

'Anti-LGBTQIA+ groups are relentlessly attacking brands that demonstrate allyship with our community.

As part of their efforts to halt and roll back LGBTQIA+ inclusion in society at large, these fringe groups are attempting to erase our community in the media, including in the ads people see.

The Trans+ community are weathering the brunt of this targeted campaign of hate and they must be protected. But this hate is not limited to our Trans+ friends – the whole LGBTQIA+ community are feeling the effects.'

Here's how to stand your ground this month:
Brands with Pride ads: Run them.
Brands working with LGBTQIA+ talent: Protect them.
Brands with Pride event plans: Keep them.
Brands with Pride products: Display them.
Brands with rainbow logos: Back up this declaration with meaningful actions.
Brands that come under attack: Brave the backlash.
Brands with media spend: Invest in media that match your values. Divest from media that spread disinformation.
