Be Awesome: kickstart your 2020 with our 'Resilience' session

Did you miss out on our last sold-out run of evening classes in December? This is your chance to start your spring with personal and professional growth.

This February and March, we'll be hosting the wonderful Liz Nottingham for two sessions. Liz is the Executive HR Director at R/GA and one of our most-loved trainers for Be Awesome, and we can't wait to have her back. Liz has over 25 years of experience in the industry, and regularly delivers training as well as maintaining her status as a thought leader. There is MUCH you can learn from this lady!

In our 'Resilience' session on Feb 4th, Liz will give the details on how to be resilient in the workplace. Resilience a sign of being human and a fundamental life skill. We all have it; we don't always use it and we often forget that we can access it. Life can be tough. The ability to be strong and flexible in the face of adversity and recover quickly, will allow you to better manage difficult situations in the future. Become resilient – you will stay healthy and your career will fly. This highly interactive workshop will explore your responses and give you some pointers for the future.

Liz will also be running 'Playing Big' on March 10. Our sense of self esteem and confidence can often hold us back. We may doubt our skills and abilities and may believe that we have to tick all 10 things on the job description to an Olympic gold standard before we can consider ourselves worthy of an application. This session will harness your ability to master your skills and confidence to move forward.

Grab your tickets for either session below. We'll be hosting them in our cosy Holborn office space, with pizza provided.

2020: The year we look at recruitment differently

If your candidates are all from the same background - or you're hiring for 'cultural fit' - this one's for you. This is not always a conscious decision, but by putting only one minority or female candidate in a pool for a job, their chance of being hired is much, much lower.

In a study of almost 600 applications for university teaching positions, women had a 0% chance of being hired if they were the only female candidate in the final hiring pool. This went up to 50% if there were two women in the pool, or 67% if there were three.

Give your minority candidates a fairer chance. Broaden your pool. Hit the link below to secure your place on our workshop.

Inclusive Creativity: is showing only one gender in ads sexist?

Our wonderful founder Ali has been featured in Campaign talking about the future of gender stereotyping rules and ads that fall foul of them.

Alongside Anna Vogt (TBWA), Xavier Rees (Havas), Jo Arden (Mullenlowe), Fernando Desouches (New Macho/BDD Perfect Storm) and Richard Dunn (Wunderman Thompson), Ali weighed in on this week's controversy: an ad being banned for only featuring men.

PC Specialist's latest spot raises several questions, not least: who was on the team producing the ad? And how can we be creative in a way that is inclusive? While men make up the majority of the target audience, people of all genders use computers and assuming that only men can be into tech is discriminatory in itself.

Is your creative truly inclusive? We're here to help. Our Inclusive Creativity workshop targets each stage of the process to break down strategies for representing and speaking to all audiences.

Our favourite initiative of 2020 so far: 40 OVER FORTY

Did you catch the world-first campaign this week, 40 OVER FORTY? The celebration of older people in a youth-obsessed creative industries is both refreshing and much-needed.

The advertising, marketing and media industries consistently value youth, and the 40 OVER FORTY founders want to change that obsession to make it a more level playing field, by acknowledging experienced marketers that we can all learn from.

Founded by Anna Dalziel (Momentum), Anna Scholes (Momentum), and Charlotte Read (freelance PR consultant and SheSays) and sponsored by Momentum, the initiative addresses a gap in our recognition of creative talent and challenges the way we think of ageism.

The first nominee, Cindy Gallop, was announced earlier this week to a huge online and industry-wide reaction. We can't wait to see more to come from the team in 2020.

Do you know someone who deserves to be on the list?

Calling all Queer creatives!

Following their first sell-out event, Queer Creatives are starting the new year in style with their event at Mother London.

Special guest Amrou Al-Kadhi is an established drag performer and creator of the 'Denim' group, which has received four and five star reviews in several national newspapers. They have written a memoir about life as a Muslim drag queen.

Amrou also works as a celebrated filmmaker, with features on the BBC Films and Film4. They've also been recognised as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow.

This one's not to miss: it's a great chance to meet other people in the industry and network with fellow queer creatives.
