Creating an inclusive AI framework: Identify and challenge bias in AI tools

AI is transforming marketing workflows, but without proper oversight, it risks amplifying biases and undermining inclusivity. This session brings together 40 marketers and DE&I experts to collaborate on a vital mission: exploring key factors in building an Inclusive AI Framework, enabling organisations to mitigate bias in AI-generated marketing outputs. This dynamic three-hour session will combine hands-on experimentation, expert insights, and collaborative problem-solving to ensure that AI-driven marketing aligns with DE&I principles and brand integrity.

The current challenge? Many of our systems are inherently biased, built off historical data. This perpetuates harmful stereotypes, which have a wider societal impact.

Learn how to:

  • Identify and address bias in AI-generated outputs.

  • Co-create a checklist to guide ethical and inclusive AI usage.

  • Build confidence in leveraging AI as a force for innovation and inclusivity.

It's an in-person event only. Register via Google or Microsoft - see you there!

Target drops DEI initiatives and discovers the harsh consequences

Last month, Target joined major corporations across the country who have been rolling back diversity initiatives in the wake of Trump taking power. The company issued a memo which said it would end its Racial Equity Action and Change program and will be stopping all external diversity-focused surveys including HRC’s Corporate Equality index.

Target lost $15.7 billion of market value after share prices fell 22% and there was a swift backlash to the memo, with civil rights activists and people across social media calling for a boycott.

Additionally, Target shareholders filed a class action lawsuit, claiming Target defrauding them by “artificially inflated” stock prices and failing to warn inventors about how removing DEI and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) policies could cause stock prices to plummet. The lawsuit also says that Target concealed the backlash it suffered from the May 2023 Pride Month campaign after the company removed the LGBTQ+ merchandise after confrontations happened in stores.

Target cultivated a millennial, urban, and progressive consumer base that cares about where brands stand, and shop accordingly. By dropping their DEI initiatives, they're alienating their target base and feeling the consequences. DEI is not a marketing gimmick, it's an economic and strategic pillar, woven into risk management, brand equity, consumer psychology, and workforce retention. Brands that integrate it well don’t just “do diversity” for optics—they're building a competitive advantage.
